ECSI Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 I'm looking for something reliable to transmit a digital on/off signal (contact) to another location about 200 feet away where it will hardwired from the receiver to an existing PLC. It has to be wireless transmission. A battery powered transmitter would be ideal since there is no power source at the transmit location. Anyone have any suggestions for the hardware?
panic mode Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 call your Phoenix Contact rep and ask him to bring wireless demo http://www.phoenixcontact.ca/products/2953_5629.htm
TERdON Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 TeleRadio might have something interesting as well, even though they're mostly involved in hand controlled stuff. It might be possibly to modify their solution, or they might have suitable variants available. www.tele-radio.com
robh Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 Banner has a cool one. I can't remember what it is right now, but I will look for the book my rep just gave me.
TimWilborne Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 What will the on/off contact be hooked to? If you are looking for a pushbutton how about a remote crane pendant?
robh Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 (edited) Its called Sure Cross, from Banner. I was looking at using this to send a weight value to a ControLogix from a forklift. Our vendor told us that nomatter what I/O you select, all modules are the same price. They also can be battery powered. Edited December 21, 2006 by robh
Chris Elston Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 The Banner one is really kewl. I've seen a demo if it. Worth a look.
ECSI Posted December 22, 2006 Author Report Posted December 22, 2006 Thanks for all of the feedback. I checked Phoenix out, but they came back incredibly expensive. So far, the Elpro 905U-K Wireless IO looks good and the price is reasonable. It also has a low power sleep mode which will save the battery power. I will check Banner out also. The application is to activate an alarm if someone opens an access hatch to a valve chamber in the ground. There is no power source in the chamber so I need battery power. Basically, there will be a magnetic switch on the access hatch wired into the wireless IO unit that I select. When the door is opened the signal will be sent to another location 200 feet away where it will be connected to a PLC/Scada system. The IO transmitter unit will be mounted inside the chamber and a vandal-proof antenna will be mounted outside. There will be 10 separate locations to install these units. Thanks
ECSI Posted December 22, 2006 Author Report Posted December 22, 2006 hey robh..the Banner unit looks great on the pdf link that you posted, but I can't find any mention of it on the Banner website. Do you know if they are released for sale yet?
robh Posted December 22, 2006 Report Posted December 22, 2006 I think that the are available for sale. I too looked on the Banner website and found nothing. My local vendor brought me a book that had more information about the different types of I/O available and gave me a price. Other than that I'm not sure. You might be able to contact you local Banner rep for more information.
