Does anyone have a source for oil bath air filters? I have search the net without any luck. We have a valve that has vac. pulled through it but this thing plugs up every couple of hour of operation causing a couple more hours of downtime. Thanks

Don't have a link but the old 1970's Mercedes 240D series of auto used an oil bath air filter for it's intake air. Know this cause Dad owned one, not sure of the part number or anything.

I seriously doubt that the original poster is refering to this kind of vaccum system, but the post reminded me of this story: Many years ago I had just started at a company where a TV repairman turned instrument technician was completely revamping a used vacuum furnace that they had acquired. When I came on board he was wrapping up the project. I noticed that he had put wound filament cartridge filters in the vacuum foreline and I wondered about the need for them in a vacuum furnace of this type. He proceeded to tell me all about how the furnace was using really out of date vacuum technology and he had removed the "ancient technology" oil bath filter from the vacuum chamber and had replumbed the whole thing and put in the cartridge filters. He showed me some photographs where the so called "old oil bath filter" could clearly be seen attached to the chamber hi-vac port. What it really was was a modern and very very expen$ive diffusion pump, removed and tossed in the garbage all because he had no idea what he was doing. The furnace never was able to achieve a decent vacuum level after his so called "modernization" and was eventually scrapped. Edited by Alaric

Ken - that is what I am looking for. What did you type into goggle to get that? Bob – That is what gave me this idea, right or wrong. There is a valve attached to and indexing device that was created by the OEM. During the operation, vacuum is applied to this device which is installed in a machine that is dirty and dusty machine. After a couple of hours, the valve gets enough contamination in it to stop its operation. The oil bath filter seems to be a possible solution that would require less maintenance that servicing air filters. Alaric – I have a similar story about my great grandfather [Louis Flesher]. From my understanding he had developed a rotary overhead oil valve that could of changed the early Chevy engine but his business and marketing skills were not that good. He was building motorcycles at the same time as Harley Davison. The owner of this museum told me they considered him a pioneer in building the motorcycle. Here is just one of the five that I have pictures of. http://www.wheelsthroughtime.com/pages/oneoffs.html Thanks, Bob
