rswolff Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 Hiya GE gurus, My customer is using Cimplicity Machine Edition. Is this the same as Proficy Machine Edition? I have Versapro and need to upgrade to Cimplicity to support them. Thanks, bob Quote
Steve Bailey Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 They are the same thing. There seems to be an ongoing turf war between GE Fanuc hardware engineering and software engineeing. Whenever hardware engineering convinces management that it would be a good idea to consolidate all automation software under the Cimplicity label, software engineering fights back and convinces management that it's better that Cimplicity maintain a separate identity as SCADA software. The most recent brief incarnation of Cimplicity Machine Edition before the name change to Proficy is the second time GE Fanuc tried to attach the Cimplicity name to PLC programming software. There once was a product called Cimplicity Control that had a mercifully brief life. Quote
