Ken Moore Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 Going to the moon are we? Have a nice trip. Nice find, it's really interesting to see what those guys accomplished with so little previous experience.
Sleepy Wombat Posted March 18, 2008 Author Report Posted March 18, 2008 I just found the artical facinating as to the inner workings of the devlopment of the project.. What an engineering dream job...

Peter Nachtwey Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 Those engineers were REAL engineers. They modelled and simulated what they could the best they could and left as little as possible to chance. My hat is off to them. Real engineering doesn't happen in industry often.
Keith Menges Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 That's because cost/benefit analysis says it doesn't have to. The cost of failure in general industry isn't high enough. In my daily job I don't have the lives of three men, the GNP of half the world and the hopes and dreams of a nation riding on my decisions. If I did I would be doing much more true engineering. The cost of failure for these people was extremely high and they didn't have any previous experience to lean on. It was a truly incredible endeavor. I wonder how many people had to bow out because the pressure just got to be too much. Keith
