Windows XP SP3

Just Updated a Dell Dimension 4300 Desktop (2001 purchase) and Dell Inspiron B130 Laptop (2005 purchase) to windows xp sp3 and have had zero issues so far. Am not running any PLC programming software on these however. Any one else have success or issues?

I haven't verified it yet, but I lost my PCMCIA functionality afer the network did the SP3 upgrade. I also installed the RSLogix upgrades in CPR9 at the same time. I am currently un-installing all RSLogix software to see if the PCMCIA returns. For now, whenever I plug ANYTHING into the PCMCIA port, Windos freezes up until I eject the card. I have tried this wth both the PCMK A/B card and the Seimens 5512, with the same results. I have deleted and re-installed both the PCMCIA driver and the PCMCIA devices but to no avail. If the un-install doesn't work I am going to request that IT roll my computer back to SP2 and try again.

I've been running XP SP3 on my personal laptop for awhile now. No issues.

We ran SP3 on an IBM Thinkpads (Lenovo) with no issues with RSLogix 500. PCMCIA port worked just fine with PCMK card. DF1 comms worked flawlessly with Keyspan US19 adapter. The only trouble we had was with the PIC module (when the PCMK DH485 cable was unavailable) and connecting to older UltraMaster drives using RS232 (random BSOD). I tried to get another laptop to work with the PIC by rolling back SP3. It took most of the shift to get anything working at all and the PIC still didn't work. I re-updated with SP3. I'm not sure if the PIC problem was SP3 or XP itself. It worked fine on our Win98 machine.

Vista is good!!!! Gave XP Pro away when the SP1 of Vista was released. I now only run XP Pro inside Virtual Box if I have a cranky program that is not Vista compliant. Just turn off UAC - have not had a blue screen of death with Vista - had them all the time with XP Pro.

Wait until Windows 7 comes out, that's supposed to be way, way better than Vista. I hope it gets along with all the software I have right off the bat.

I've been playing with the Betas/Release Candidates - they are much friendlier with my hardware and software than the the first production version of Vista that came with my laptop. I like Win 7!

From past experience with Win95, Win98, XP-Pro and Vista I think I will be waiting for SP1. Microsoft never seem to get the first go anywhere near right.
