Chalpa Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 Hello everyone: I was wondering if could exists a device that can connect on a Profinet ring some devices sending control, programming and data signals over the same physical network. I´m attaching a picture showing the concept. Our customer wants to install only a ring on all the line and receive control signals and data from the devices as to change the program parameter connecting to them over ethernet. Thanks in advance for your help
Chalpa Posted November 30, 2008 Author Report Posted November 30, 2008 I just find this device, The SCALANCE X204IRT from Siemens. Do you think it can fullfill the above request? Regards
JesperMP Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 Hi Chalpa. Yes, I believe that the X204IRT can be used to setup a Profinet network with "media redundancy" (=ring). However, there are many settings to mess around with, and I am not an expert in this. If we were talking about standard Ethernet, then I am sure that any redundancy method would be possible. With Profinet, I am sure it has to be managed within the project. Otherwise the Profinet will fail at the moment of switchover, which takes approx 0.3s for a Profinet network. Myself, I shall attend a course in Profinet, and I recommend it for you too. Trial and error may not be the best strategy in this case.
