teal854t Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 I did some changes on ladder program and tried to downlod it back to PLC (micro 90) and "insufficient privilege" message came up. Is that password protected? Is there any default password or anyway to go around? It was one of our older machines and no documents for it. I'm also not familiar with GE either. Thanks
Steve Bailey Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 Sorry to be the bearer of news you don't want to hear, but you're correct in your interpretation of the message. It is a password issue. There is no "backdoor" password. If it is a Logicmaster 90 file, the password is a four-character hex number. That means there are 65536 possibilities. At one every 5 seconds, it could take you less than 90 hours to guess the correct password unless you take food/bathroom/sleep breaks.
RussB Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 As you have done some changes, I am guessing that you have a backup of the logic without a password, if yes you can win this one. Save your program, then. 1. Remove power from the PLC, and battery if there is one. 2. Now either wait for the RAM power to go dead or short the supercap that powers it. 3. This will clear all memory. 4. DL your program without the password. This problem could also be that you are using software that does not support the firmware version of the Series 90 Micro that you are trying to change.
teal854t Posted December 15, 2009 Author Report Posted December 15, 2009 I've got one more question. There are 2 ports. One on far left and one in the middle. I was using the middle one. I have not tried the left port. Is it the same for both? Thanks
RussB Posted December 17, 2009 Report Posted December 17, 2009 (edited) Almost, the left one (port 1) is considered the programming port because the right one can not update the firmware or download the hardware configuration (port 2). Also if the system needs an SNP ID it is assigned to port 1, but used by both. Generally the left one (port 2) is used by an HMI or other network communications. BTW, the Series 90 family is no longer available, other than eBay, it has been replaced by the VersaMax Micro family. Edited December 17, 2009 by RussB
