RTRBURN Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 I have a Q02 that I is connected to a GT1585 via a QJ71E71-100 Ethernet card on the Q rack and a Ethernet bus module on the GT15. Has worked great with no issues for the past year. Now we are starting a new project on the machine and want to utilize the Micro USB port up front to be able to communicate to the PLC without having to run 40' of cable back around front and be able to update the GOT screen as we go also. I have never had any issues using this port on other machines that communicate PLC to GOT via bus cable. But since this one uses the Ethernet, this is where I'm having my issue. Anyone got a tutorial on how to set this up. It would be greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance.
Gambit Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 (edited) It should look something like this. double click on the PLC module to select GOT transparant mode via ethernet. Edited January 19, 2011 by Gambit
RTRBURN Posted January 19, 2011 Author Report Posted January 19, 2011 Thanks Gambit, I tried that and entered the IP address, but not sure If I got the rest setup correctly. Which option do I use in the Channel Connection List? Here are the screen shots from what I have so far. GOT System Environment/Communication Settings; Plc Ethernet Settings; Connection Channel List; Network Communication route;
Gambit Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 (edited) I do not see any screenshots. You should make sure you have selected QJ71E71 and that the network number and station numer of the Ethernet module match the settings in the screen below Edited January 20, 2011 by Gambit
RTRBURN Posted January 20, 2011 Author Report Posted January 20, 2011 Gambit, I changed the picture file ext. see if this works now. Thanks again.
Gambit Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 (edited) Look fine to me if your GOT is communicating with the System Q. You should be able to comm through the GOT Edited January 20, 2011 by Gambit
RTRBURN Posted January 20, 2011 Author Report Posted January 20, 2011 (edited) Gambit Thanks. I did find in the PLC Network Parameters Ethernet Operational settings to Enable Write during Run time, and the box was not checked. I have to wait to write the parameters to the cpu when they go to lunch so I don't shut them down. Hopefully this is all it was. Nope...that didn't work either. Edited January 20, 2011 by RTRBURN
Crossbow Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 Your versions of software may be too old for transparent mode via Ethernet. What versions of GT and GX software are you using?
RTRBURN Posted January 25, 2011 Author Report Posted January 25, 2011 8.90 U GX Developer and I have tried on GT3 and GT Desinger 2 ver:2.43V
Crossbow Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 2.43 will be way too old. Did you download the OS components to the GOT with GT3? It's not just software version, but the OS loaded to the GOT should also be latest. Your GX Developer should work fine.
RTRBURN Posted January 27, 2011 Author Report Posted January 27, 2011 Thanks Crossbow, I'll have to look and see what components are installed on the GOT, off the top of my head I couldn't tell yeah whats been installed and what hasn't since going to the GT3. How are you guys liking the GT3 software? Honestly I really don't care for how you now have to create folders for projects and the use of the xml file. Not everyone saves files correctly and you end up with files corrupted. Liked it the old way..just give it a name and save it. Really dislike that once you open a file in GT3 you can no longer open it in GT2.
Crossbow Posted January 29, 2011 Report Posted January 29, 2011 Switch to saving in the compressed file formats. Only reason to save in workspace format is if you are using system labels and Navigator. Why would you expect you can open a project in brand new software and go back to older software with it? Most software is like that. Open an IEC project in a newer version, it updates the libraries, and can't be opened in older versions.
