Zman Posted August 19, 2011 Report Posted August 19, 2011 I want to convert a few of my old Allen Bradley Panelviews to touch screen capable. But the touch screen is using an USB interface to connect. Does anyone know of an interface device that would communicate with the Panelview? I was told that the speed of the USB device is too fast to work with the AB devices. But I think it should be possible to achieve without too much effort... Any help is appreciated!
TimWilborne Posted August 21, 2011 Report Posted August 21, 2011 OK I'm confused. An Allen Bradley Panelview is a touchscreen. You are looking at replacing the Panelview with a different device? What are you looking at replacing it with?
Zman Posted August 21, 2011 Author Report Posted August 21, 2011 Not all Panelviews are touch screen. Some have keyboards. I am looking to make a non- touch screen Panelview into a touch screen by using a touch screen overlay device. The device has a USB plug for an interface to a computer. (PC) From AB: The PanelView™ Standard 1000 Graphic Terminals have a 10 in. gayscale or color flat-panel display with 640 x 480 resolution. These terminals support operator input via keypad (16 function keys), via touch screen or via keypad with touch screen
TimWilborne Posted August 22, 2011 Report Posted August 22, 2011 Yes, what you are trying to do won't work.
Ken Roach Posted August 22, 2011 Report Posted August 22, 2011 Your touchscreen overlay device has drivers for a PC, probably supporting Windows, Linux, and maybe Mac. The PanelView 1000 Standard terminal runs a proprietary operating system from fifteen years ago on an industrial chipset with no USB support of any sort. If this were a PanelView 1000 Plus terminal, and your touchscreen overlay works like a standard HID device (i.e. no drivers required), then *maybe* this will work. PanelView Plus terminals are made to work with their own touchscreens, so RA doesn't include any drivers or support for other touchscreens. Also, I've never seen any "overlay" or external device that would come close to the environmental standards the PanelView terminal has.
