wizard Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 Thee application is for makeup/breakout pipe threads. I am controlling an hydraulic motor with the help of three hydraulic pumps, one with variable flow and two with fixed flow. I have to maintain the output torque of the hydraulic motor constant. Output torque = Pressure * Flow. The pressure is given by a pressure transducer and the flow is given the three pumps. On makeup, I am starting with the maximum speed of the hydraulic motor (flow is max, therefore all three pumps are working at max.). While I am advancing with the screw, the pressure is raising (it is more harder to screw) and I have to decrease the flow to maintain the output torque constant. Since I have one variable flow pump and two fixed flow pumps, I will decrease the flow of the variable pump and when the flow is at minimum on the variable pump, I will close one of the fixed pumps and put the variable pump on max and so on. I have almost no experience with hydraulic pumps/motors and I am looking for the best control algorithm of the process.
