Hi Guys, Anyone ever assume control of a commercial roll up door opener? Door will be a barrier to entry to a hazardous area. Safety PLC will monitor access and it would be convenient for the remote operator to be able to exert control of the door, but then there is the inevitable installer / maintainer issues that would be more complicated to address. I don't know if there is an acceptable way to do a manual - auto mode switch around the standard push button station or maybe just do a one hot in parallel (complications due to stuck PBs provisions or broken wire detection or anti-tie-down logic)? But then it would also be better to know when the door is up or down, etc. It is not simple to figure out how much of the standard provisions to assimilate into the PLC. Anyone have experience to share ? Best Regards, Bob A.

Bob the only way I can see they bypass being acceptable is when the area is in non hazardous state. I did a ventilation system for a chicken house. The doors opened on power loss. They had a stand by power system the door was 24 VDC. We had to look for the open limit and closed limit. The we used where for security system. I don't know it that helps answer your question or not.

Hi Jeff, This one is a hot potato and I really under estimated how many ways that this thing could get complicated. The client wants to take control of everything so the door opener is likely to be just the 3ΓΈ motor and lift system and I'll give it a reversing starter in the MCC. The part that is not defined yet is that there will be a safety PLC with a SIL3 installation for the area inside the door, and I don't see how the door can escape being involved with that Safety Task. So anything having to do with the door may wind up being associated wiith redundant Safety IO (the Red Stuff). I though that I would be able to avoid having to get that education until a bit later in the year, but it looks like that is going to be coming much sooner. This is going to be a very long year! Best Regards, Bob A.
