FX1S Connection Issue

Hello all, A collegue is trying to connect to a FX1S for the first time and its saying 'insufficient memory'. Any ideas before we delve deep into it? Cheers.

Need quite a bit more information. Please be as specific as possible when asking questions. What software? What version? What cable? Connection method? What version of Windows?

Software: GX Devloper Version: (Will add when I get screen shot) What cable (Will add when I get screen shot) Connection: (Serial to PLC direct) Version of windows: (Vista, will double check) I've been waiting for my collegue to get me the screen shot, then i can upload more information.

I have no idea what SC-07 cable is for, but I'm pretty sure you cannot use it between a computer and an FX-PLC. You need SC-09 (the red one) programming cable. The reason I'm pretty sure you cannot use SC-07 (even if I don't know what it's for) is that the FX-Series uses RS422 communication while your computer most likely uses an RS232 port. Therefore you need an RS232<->RS422 converter which takes some space (not like the connector you are holding). Try changing the cable and see what happens!

I've been informed that the SC09 (red) has already been tried with the same message. I'll repeat the action and add pictures later using the SC09. He says SC07 was used previously to com with FX1S's on site. (For the only other on site, I use the SC09). Appologies for the sketchy information, trying to help a collegue. I'll jump on it after lunch. Thanks for the replies.

Is this error message pop up when he open the GX-Developer even he yet to connect to PLC. He might try to restart the PC and try again.

That's GX Developer crashing, it has nothing to do with the cable. Sounds like your software is corrupted. I would try to uninstall and reinstall it, or see if a newer version is available. Your version may not be rated for your OS. But I can't say any more on that without a software version number.

I've seen an sc-o7 somewhere but I can't quite remember where. I think I saw it on and old medoc eeprom reader/writer but I could be wrong. (it went into a converter box) I also remember getting the same message on and old laptop running gx dev. I think I rebooted and it went away.

If my memory is correct should the SC-07 cable be used between a PC and the FX1S-232BD card. Edit: Sorry, the correct name is FX1N-232BD of the expansion card. It will fit FX1S and FX1N series PLC Edited April 18, 2014 by Bryll

i agree with cross bow. i encountered that problem when i tried opening more than 3 gx devs. try checking your available memory on your PC.(RAM) Edited May 28, 2014 by napster

Hi I have a FX1N and I would like to know if you can MODBUS to it via the on board programing port I am a bit confused as everything I have read so far about modbus on a FX1n says to add an rs232 or rs485 expansion board this to me seems strange when you can already read and write to the plc via the programing port so why would I need to add an extra port. I am talking to this unit with a usb rs232 to rs485 adapter via the programing port. Thanks.

The programming port supports special protocol, that is not compatible with Modbus.

I think you open maximum gx developer application.first u close all gx application or restart your system
