Wondering if anyone has had a similar problem to this, or a possible solution. I have two Cognex 4001 cameras connected via ethernet to the same computer. I am able to connect to one of them via InSight with no problems. The other I cannot seem to connect to (I have been able to in the past), I just get a "connection failed" dialog. Using RsLinx I can still see the camera on the network, and I am able to use InSight to FTP to the camera and manipulate the files saved in the camera's memory. The camera is still running and performing its functions, but I can't get online with it to see a live picture, or make changes to the program. Any help would be apprecitated.

That is strange. Are they connected to a HUB or a SWITCH? I had a problem just a couple of weeks ago I found out that an Insight 1000 is 10MBS based, and the Insight 3400 os 100MBS based, I had an old hub that would not auto detect the speeds of the two cameras. I had to go out and buy a new hub/switch that could autodetect both the 100 and 10MBS connections. This solved my networking problems between the two cameras and myself. (Laptop) Other than this, that is weird. Even if you can FTP, that indicates to me that you have no networking or TCP/IP problems. Are you using the new Insight Explorer by chance? Or just PC Host? If you are using PC Host, junk that software and download Insight Explorer, I will never use PC Host or the controller again after seeing what Insight Explorer can do...it's sweet...

Yeah, we are running PC Host...not sure if we have current support on those cameras in order to download Explorer. Didn't get a chance to work on it today, will have to hit it again on Monday. I think I'm going to try to add the camera as a new host again to see if that works. Just means climbing up a ladder to find the MAC address. The odd part is I know this camera worked fine in the past, it's only recently that the problem cropped up. Thanks for your help.

I've had lots of problems with the old PC HOST software. The same as what you have discribed. Weird connection problems like that. I've done what you want to do, and I've gotten that to work. I've also powered down the camera and powered them back up and that seem to work also. I call it "PDPU". Say that real fast.... BTY, that software "netscan.exe" I posted above, you can turn on an option that will tell you what the MAC address is in your camera. Take a look at the netscan.exe software one more time. I use it all the time to find the MAC address of insight cameras because they always stick the MAC address sticker on the same surface of the camera that you have it mounted on...

Ahh, Netscan DID turn out to be very handy for resolving the MAC address! Much better than being 20 ft. up on a ladder over a conveyor line. Added the camera as a new host and it seems to be working again. Lost the flash memory in the process, but that was easily fixed. Thanks for the help!
