Unable to connect E1101 to pc via ethernet

Hi All I am trying to connect E1101 using RJ45 patch lead ( network cable ) to pc network port. but I get error message " Unable to connect to terminal" after about 30 sec., when try to read the program. I am sure I've configed hmi correctly. Any idea please. donny

Hi Donny, You are using E-Designer I guess, If you click the SEND button at project transfer you will get the question to which Host IP you want to connect to. Is this allready set in your E1101 panel? I'm not sure if this is the first time that you connect to this panel but default there is a IP setting.192.168.1.1 subnetmask 255.255.255.0 You have to make sure the PC Ethernetport is in that same range. Also the PC and HMI must have a different IP adress (but within the same range) e.g. for te Ethernet adapter inside the PC use: 192.168.1.2 As an alternative you can set the IP first by using a USB or Serial connection with a CAB30 RS232 cable. Are you connected with a direct cable between the PC and the HMI? If so you need a crossed patch cable. Alternatively you can use a switch and connect the HMI and the PC to the switch.

Sorry Theo. It was not the Ethernet connection was transferring data to and from. I did not realise I had active RS232 serial connection too. Still trying as so far I had no luck. I can change IP address on HMI , such as 192.168.1.2 from 192.168.1.1 etc as my pc IP is 192.168.1.4 but nothing. Any idea pls.

1. Did you use a crossed cable (or switch in between)? 2. Did you specify TCP/IP transfer in transfer setup in the software? By the way; which software do you use?

try to make hard reset hmi.(if you do not need read software from hmi) On back you have 4 dip switches 3-switch on position(reset settings and go back to factory setup).Im using E--designer to programing that HMI E1101.Also i connect by network.

To connect E1101 with PC, first you must know IP your E1101. Try like this : 1. Reboot E1101 and then you will see default address E1101. example IP : 192.168.1.12 2. Set your IP address PC same subnet. example IP : 192.168.1.1 3. If E1101 direct to PC must using cross cable UTP, if using hub/switch can use stright cable UTP. Hope can solve your problem

Many thanks to everyone for their replies. I've managed to sort it out by changing the IP address manually on PC eg. 192.168.1.5 as it is not in use ( static IP address). Then changed E-1101 IP address to 192.168.1.6 from the HMI panel. With a cross RJ 45 network cable they connect each other without any problem. Now I can upload/download program within 30 sec.as opposed to serial transfer (15 min.). Excellent. By the way default IP address would not work due to conflicts of IP adds. between PC and HMI. donny Edited March 13, 2015 by donny

Hahahaha!! Yeah, the serial transfer on the E1000 series is a pain!! Great that you sorted it out!

Hi Donny, Did you set the transferspeed to the max. in E-Designer when you are using the serial connection to te PC? 15 minutes is rather long and I guess that you selected 9600 BAUD. This can be set to the highest speed. I agree that Ethernet is much faster than RS232. Good te read that the problem is under control and how you did this so we can all learn from this.
