Andy_P Posted April 10, 2016 Report Posted April 10, 2016 Is it possible to upgrade the firmware in an NJ controller? Quote
BITS N BYTES Posted April 10, 2016 Report Posted April 10, 2016 I recall that the cleanest/recommended method to upgrade firmware was to send the processor to OMRON to perform this change. This firmware upgrade method may have changed but I am not sure. Can any OMRON guys shed light on this? Quote
Michael Walsh Posted April 11, 2016 Report Posted April 11, 2016 Yes, either that, or an Omron engineer can do it at your facility. Quote
Andy_P Posted April 12, 2016 Author Report Posted April 12, 2016 Thanks. To that end, I have an Omron rep visiting me this week to do the upgrade. Quote
himanshuKamboj Posted April 21, 2016 Report Posted April 21, 2016 NJ Firmware can be update using SD card, You first have to write firmware files using  DDWin..... Also you will require a file as per the series like NJ301 has a different file and NJ501 has a different file.  Quote
Michael Walsh Posted April 21, 2016 Report Posted April 21, 2016 Yes, but Omron's policy is that the user will not do this process (Using DDWin) as there is a potential to make a brick of the controller. Omron will actually sell the firmware already installed on an SD card that comes with a step by step procedure to update the firmware. This will lessen the likelihood of damaging the processor. lamboom Posted August 3, 2016 Report Posted August 3, 2016 Reminds me of Siemens... S7 1200 ..    And, I'm going to Omron to get away from Siemens. Quote
Crossbow Posted August 3, 2016 Report Posted August 3, 2016 Quite a big difference between S7-1200 and NJ. Quote

Crossbow Posted October 2, 2017 Report Posted October 2, 2017 You need to go through the Omron rep to upgrade firmware, it's not something you can download on your own. Quote

lamboom Posted October 30, 2017 Report Posted October 30, 2017 Perhaps I can help .. I said earlier .."And, I'm going to Omron to get away from Siemens."  This implied no comparison between Omron NJ and Siemens S7-1200 .. they are quite different after all... However, where they are NOT different, Is the complex and expensive manor that firmware upgrades are performed ... I think Crossbow thought I was comparing the CPU's Quote
Crossbow Posted October 31, 2017 Report Posted October 31, 2017 No, I was not referring to CPU, but to firmware upgrade. There is typically no need to upgrade firmware in a controller once it is installed. You buy a CPU because it has the features you need. You don't plan to update the firmware if the application is already solved. Only reason to upgrade a working installed CPU is if there is a bug in it.  Quote
