Amol Kirad Posted October 3, 2016 Report Posted October 3, 2016 Hi all, I am using Mitsubishi Q series PLC Q03UDE and I want to communicate data-logic 2D barcode scanner with PLC. My questions are : Is it possible to communicate Mitsubishi PLC to data-logic scanner over MC protocol or Ethernet?if yes then provide me data-logic model number? Is it possible to communicate Mitsubishi PLC to data-logic scanner over RS232 or modbus ?if yes then provide me data-logic model number and also what hardware changes are required ?
Gambit Posted October 3, 2016 Report Posted October 3, 2016 You should check with Datalogic if they Support MC porotocol or SLMP over Ethernet or RS232. However Mitsubishi has a pre-defined protocol for Ethernet and serial communication. For serial there are already two protocols available for Datalogic. DS2****N and DS4800.
Amol Kirad Posted October 3, 2016 Author Report Posted October 3, 2016 Thank you for the reply. I have some more query about my application, Can I connect 4 scanner to single CPU using 4 RS232 Port ? what could be maximum length of RS232 cable ? I am going to scan 1D and also 2D multiple code with data-logic scanner over RS-232 and going to send scanned data to VB based server through kepware over Ethernet after SCAN OK complete .Is it possible ? data length will be variable. Maximum character would be 22 digit.
Gambit Posted October 4, 2016 Report Posted October 4, 2016 Yes if you have 4 serial ports on your syste Q that should be possible. (Cognex has barcode scanners on ethernet that support SLMP than you do not need any extra hardware. ) The maximum length of any RS232 depends on the speed so at 9600 bps it would be 15 meters. I have never used Datalogic. I would use a cognex instead and use the SLMP this will save on System Q hardware and I do not have to write any communication code.
Amol Kirad Posted October 8, 2016 Author Report Posted October 8, 2016 Yes, of course cognex is more simple than data-logic if we connect it to Q series Mitsubishi PLC. But there is some commercial issue so that we have to go for Data logic. and one more thing , I want to generate 2D bar-code data from Sato printer and need to connect it to same Q series PLC,then which protocol should I go for and which printer of sato make you would suggest ?
kaare_t Posted October 8, 2016 Report Posted October 8, 2016 Some of the Cognex scanners have ModbusTCP (and some other industrial protocols) - given that you can use Ethernet. Check if you can find a scanner that has this (lesser development time for custom protocols). Regarding printers you'll really need to figure out what your spec is. We cannot say which printer you should choose (brand/model). There are tons of different printers out there and it's hard to tell you which one. The only thing you'll need from the PLC point of view is a printer that can communicate via serial/ethernet. Most often you'll need to write the custom protocol in the PLC yourself (I haven't seen a printer with built-in industrial protocols yet). So all in all: Try to use Ethernet as much as possible (easier wiring, longer distances and lesser hardware on the PLC side). Some scanners come with industrial protocols - use them. Printers you'll have to find one that suits your need, but make sure it supports communication.
Amol Kirad Posted November 28, 2016 Author Report Posted November 28, 2016 Hi, I need help. As I am integrating Datalogic scanner on RS232 with Mitsubishi PLC. But I got stuck at this point(shown in image ) and also don't know what would be the next step. Help me to get through this.
Gambit Posted November 28, 2016 Report Posted November 28, 2016 (edited) You need to execute protocol one from the PLC sequence. After downloading this into the PLC Edited November 28, 2016 by Gambit
Amol Kirad Posted November 28, 2016 Author Report Posted November 28, 2016 Hi Gambit, If you have any sample program this can you forward it to me. Including Parameter and Protocol file.

I've done it for an ethernet connection but not serial. But it should be similar
Amol Kirad Posted November 29, 2016 Author Report Posted November 29, 2016 thank you. I am working on it.
