redeemer Posted December 11, 2004 Report Posted December 11, 2004 Hi, When having an RS485 network, should I connect both ends of the cable's shield to the signal ground, or is it only one side? When is it better to use either of these two modes of connecting the shield? Thanks Quote
Ken Moore Posted December 12, 2004 Report Posted December 12, 2004 Only connect one end of the shield to ground. Many times grounding both ends introduces "noise" to the system. Ken Quote

moosty Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 Sometimes, grounds potential difference can cause harm on communication lines if you connect both ends into ground. If the distance is short, you can connect both grounds. Quote
