Interesting article.  I have been looking into the Ignition product recently.  It looks like a good enterprise product, but I am looking for something that is good as a standalone (not on network with server) product.  Anyone have any comments about using it as a replacement for HMI only?

At a previous employer, we used Ignition on several projects as a stand-alone product.  It worked great, and I never had any issues with running on a desktop machine.  Compared with a lot of other products, I found it to be pretty easy on resources.
