NJH99 Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 Hello all, great site! I wonder if anyone could help, i'm using Win GPP (SW3D5C-GPPW-E(V) software, & trying to connect via my laptop serial port to a Mistubishi FX1 PLC. I think I need a SC09 cable (which I used to have but gave away!). I'm trying to make one from bits and bobs laying around the workshop & a downloaded drawing from your website. What I need to know is do I have to install the gates, resitors & diodes or can I get away with single pin connections? e.g. pin 2 (9 Pin D) to pin 3 or 16 (25 Pin D). Also I have an old FX0 Plc that came with a FX-20P-CAB cable, can anyone tell me what cable this is as it's wired differently to the Melsec FX0 cable on the SC09 schematic I downloaded. Cheers, Nick Quote
panic mode Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 since you are only connecting to FX, you should be able to use cable that Sergey made, it's just pin to pin connection with one resistor... Quote
NJH99 Posted February 15, 2005 Author Report Posted February 15, 2005 Thanks Panic Mode, I've found an alternative cable which i'm going to try tonight (GMT). If that don't work i'll try Sergey's cable. Still wouldn't mind connecting to my FX1 though (25PIN D) what is the part number for I.C. for the SC-09 cable just in case I have to install the circuitry? Thanks, Nick Quote
NJH99 Posted February 15, 2005 Author Report Posted February 15, 2005 All Sorted Tried all manner of diagrams but the only one that worked came from an old post and goes as follows: - Mitsubishi FX0 Pinout Diagram: - PLC / PC db-9 1____3 2____5 3____5 4____2 6____1,4,6 7____5 -short connect PC pins 7 and 8 -connect connectors "grounds?" together Don't know if its some thing to do with the software or laptop i'm using but this is the ONLY one that worked. Thanks MKARVINE. Back to my pond project! Thanks all Nick Quote
panic mode Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 what old post? can you please make diagram? it's a little confusing to see three pins (2,3,7) connect to pin5 of the DB9. while pins 4 and 6 are often shorted on DB9, it's unusual thing to also tie them to pin1. Quote
NJH99 Posted February 15, 2005 Author Report Posted February 15, 2005 I've attached a drawing I made. I don't know why it works as I have very little undersatnding of these things, but if anyone needs any cable drawing s I got loads from biejers in PDF format. All told I think I must have over 20 different cable schematics for connecting different kit to mitsubishi PLC's. I hope the drawing helps. Cheers, Nick Quote
Sergei Troizky Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 (edited) As far as I know, the pin 6 of the PLC is not connected to any signal. Hence, it makes no sense to connect it with the jumper on the PC side. Also, grounding the output of the differential line driver (PLC pin 7) is useless, if not harmful. This pin should be excluded from the jumper shown. Just for curiosity, try to disconnect them. It should still work. P.S. For Panic Mode- DB9 pins 1-6 are shorted on both sides in the Allen Bradley 1747-CP3 nul-modem cable. Edited February 15, 2005 by Sergei Troizky Quote
panic mode Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 !? pin4 nad 6 are DTR and DSR while pin1 is carrier detect...it doesn't make sense to have them all connected together... i do make tons of cables but i might be rusty when it comes to CP3 pinout (i buy those because i like the 90 deg end). i never needed pin1 but heck... ok i just pulled my meter and CP3 out just to find out that you ware correct about 1 and 6 but according to my meter 6 and 4 are not connected on same side so that's fine by me. now why would one have 1, 4 and 6 together? because plc can use it as CD line when connected to modem? i don't think so, that would be straight cable, not crossover... cliffordchow Posted June 25, 2005 Report Posted June 25, 2005 I have tried and work on my FX0s also. Thank a lot. Quote
david joy Posted April 1, 2014 Report Posted April 1, 2014 Has anybody tried using USB to RS232 converter using this configuration? just curious because many laptop doesn't come with serial port. Quote
