Gary.Johnson Posted February 26, 2020 Report Posted February 26, 2020 Got an interesting question a bit ago. With the COVID19 scare going on our operators want to start cleaning touch screens with a 29% Ethanol/water mix. Our facility uses Omron NS and NTs and a handful of TCP Quickpanels and Profaces. The manuals I've found say weak solutions of solvents are acceptable but don't say what the OEM considers a 'weak solution' to be. Anyone tried cleaning an industrial touch screen with Ethanol?
ElectronGuru Posted April 20, 2020 Report Posted April 20, 2020 I've always used Windex or isopropyl alcohol. This big this to avoid is any cleaner or cloth that is abrasive. This is a copy and pasted from the PanelView Plus 7 Performance manual: Clean the Terminal Display A protective overlay can help extend the life of the terminal and make it easier to clean the display. Table 6 on page 20 provides catalog numbers for overlays. ATTENTION: Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, they can damage the display. Do not scrub or use brushes. Do not apply cleaning solution directly on the terminal screen. The solution can drip or seep onto the gasket. Apply cleaning solution to a clean sponge or soft cloth, and gently wipe the screen to remove the dirt and grime To clean the display, follow these steps. 1. Remove power from the terminal. 2. To clean the display and to help prevent scratches, use a clean sponge or soft cloth with mild soap or detergent. 3. To avoid water spots, dry the display with a chamois or moist cellulose sponge. Remove Paint and Grease To remove paint or grease from the bezel that is properly mounted in a NEMA, UL Type, or IP rated enclosure, follow these steps. 1. Rub lightly with isopropyl alcohol (70% concentration). 2. Use a mild soap or detergent solution to remove residue. 3. Rinse with clean water.
