hi all

bit of info needed,I want to wire up an encoder i have to a fx plc.
i believe/ would like to use hs counter c252 where x0 is A encoder output,x1 is B & x2 rest.

the encoder i have came with following details:

Features:
400 p / r (Single-phase 400 pulses / R, Two phase 4 frequency doubling to 1600 pulses)
Power source: DC5-24V
Shaft: 6 * 13mm / 0.23 * 0.51 ″
Size: 38 * 35.5mm / 1.49 * 1.39 ″
Output: AB 2phase output rectangular orthogonal pulse circuit, the output for the NPN open collector output type
Maximum mechanical speed: 5000 R / min
Response frequency: 0-20KHz
Cable length: 1.5 meters
Notice: AB 2phase output must not be directly connected with VCC, otherwise, will burn the output triode because of
different batches, and may not have the terminal
Package included: 1 X Incremental Rotary Encoder

Connection:
Green = A phase, white = B phase, red = Vcc power supply, black = V0


I gather from this that I connect green - x0,white-x1, red to 24v & black/shield to 0v & rest button x2

I also believe as it is npn output  would I connect 0v to the s/s terminal.(sink?)

what i need to know is if i connect 24v to the s/s terminal would this damage the encoder & if all my above assumptions are correct.

Hi lizard,

Yes, your 0V would go to the common on the PLC input. This would be NPN.

" The S/S terminal is used to configure the unit inputs for sinking or sourcing signals (all at once).
The inputs themselves are polarity-insensitive and S/S is their common.
When the S/S is connected to the logic ground, the inputs react on sourcing signals (PNP sensors).
When it is connected to the logic power (typically +24VDC) the inputs react on sinking signals (NPN sensors). "
