Profinet data question

Hi all

I am doing research into various Industrial communication protocols, and there is one thing bugging me about Profinet.  There doesn't seem to be an automated process for describing the data transferred in the cyclic messaging.  The gsdml gives you the submodule names, and the length of the data, but where is information such as the units used, the scale or the precision?  Wouldn't the GSDML be the perfect place to provide controllers with the exact details of what data the device is providing?
