Siemens novice questions about touch screens

I would like to know if I can use a Siemens PLC if I only have a serial screen?

Better use something from Siemens.

All depends on how your screen can communicate.  The PLC likely has some serial protocols, I am not sure which ones, as you never mentioned which Siemens PLC you are talking about.  What protocols can the screen use?  Does it have communication drivers to talk to Siemens?

Serial communication is as diverse as the languages people speak... you need to make sure the screen and the PLC can both talk one language...

Is that a photo you took? It looks like it has an Ethernet port. Is that a possibility?

Older Siemens PLC's such as the S7-300's usually have a MPI/Profibus port on the front, if your HMI can handle either of those protocols, you are good.
