Guest Posted October 13, 2021 Report Posted October 13, 2021 (edited) I would like to know if I can use a Siemens PLC if I only have a serial screen? Edited October 13, 2021 by Xavier1987
ramaslabas Posted October 16, 2021 Report Posted October 16, 2021 Better use something from Siemens. It should be too complicated for beginning.
Crossbow Posted October 20, 2021 Report Posted October 20, 2021 All depends on how your screen can communicate. The PLC likely has some serial protocols, I am not sure which ones, as you never mentioned which Siemens PLC you are talking about. What protocols can the screen use? Does it have communication drivers to talk to Siemens? Serial communication is as diverse as the languages people speak... you need to make sure the screen and the PLC can both talk one language...
pop29684 Posted October 22, 2021 Report Posted October 22, 2021 Is that a photo you took? It looks like it has an Ethernet port. Is that a possibility?
Ken Moore Posted October 22, 2021 Report Posted October 22, 2021 Older Siemens PLC's such as the S7-300's usually have a MPI/Profibus port on the front, if your HMI can handle either of those protocols, you are good.
