I am not sure what your requirements would be in the UK but in the USA our National Electrical Code call that we size the Over Current Protective Device for the Motor First.

Assuming 480 VAC Three Phase 5KW == 6.33 Amps and OCP would need to be 125% of that or 7.9 Amps.  Rounding to standard sizes is allowed so a 10 AMP OCP would be used.

The same code then says that 14 AWG is permitted for applications to 20 AMPS.  

This is an American example, but I believe you'll have similar codes in the UK.
