Reiskar Posted January 14 Report Posted January 14 (edited) Hello! I have a CP2E-N at a clients site that controls a conveyor belt and logs some data. Now the client wants the timestamps to be synchronised to the outside world. We have an internet connection on site and i can access the PLC remotely, but i can not get the Automatic clock adjustment to work with a source that is not on our LAN. I've tried different DNS IP-s, different IP-s for the NTP servers, but every time i can not get an answer, just time out. I tried setting up my PC as the NTP server and works just fine. Has anyone tried and achieved something like this before? Edited January 14 by Reiskar
Crossbow Posted January 14 Report Posted January 14 It sounds like the customer's IT department has blocked that type of network traffic. It will work on the local LAN, but not through their firewalls to an actual website. You should communicate with their IT department and see if they are blocking it and if they will allow it. Firewalls can be customized to do about anything, if they are willing.

Crossbow Posted June 15 Report Posted June 15 Also make sure you set the default gateway. When used on a private network, a lot of times a gateway is not set to indicate how to get off the network. When using DHCP like on a PC it always sets a gateway but when people set their own it sometimes is not set.

The PC will sync with public NTP servers and serve accurate time to the CP2E over the local network. This avoids any DNS or firewall issues the PLC might face when accessing external servers directly.
