rdibble Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 I'm looking for way to measure the speed of a wire rope (cable) without a friction wheel. I've looked at dopler laser devices, but they are too pricy. I'd like to do it for under $2000. I figure if they can sell an optical mouse (which measures distance in two dimensions) for around 20 bucks, I should be able to find something. Could a low-end vision system be the answer? Here are my spec.s: Rope Diameter: Aprox. 1" Rope Speed: up to 2500 FPM environment: dusty, 32 - 130 degrees F resolution 2 FPM Output Signal: 4-20 mA or 0-10 V Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks, Rocky Dibble Quote
panic mode Posted July 18, 2005 Report Posted July 18, 2005 why non contact? what are downsides of using wheel and encoder? is the cable guided or moving always through same place (no sagging, swinging etc.)? is it the same cable you measure over and over (positioning system) or it's product that is coiled, cut and shipped away? when you say dusty, can you explain a bit better?
