gravitar Posted August 20, 2005 Report Posted August 20, 2005 Most of you are no doubt familiar with optical fibers in "armored" cables. You know, the cables are constructed like the handset cord on a payphone. Seems like a great idea.. flexible yet highly durable. I asked my A-B salesman if he had sensor cables of the same construction. Seems like they should, right?? Well not only does A-B not have them, he was pretty sure that *NO* controls vendors make such a thing! I find that VERY hard to believe.. So if it really does turn out that I was the first to have this idea, maybe one of you enterprising inventors can design a micro/pico patch "armored" cable. I'm sure the idea would catch on and sell quite well. I promise I would buy a LOT! I would appreciate it if you give me 10% of the profits.. maybe give another 10% to the MrPLC.com staff, they deserve the support :) Quote
Guest Guest Posted August 20, 2005 Report Posted August 20, 2005 I think if you contact your Banner Sensor sales rep that he may be able to help you. I've used these amoured fibre cables in the past, normally in hot areas. In most cases it has been with Banners sensors. I have seen these cables made locally in Australia and would definately think that there is someone local to you who would custom make them for you. Also have seen some Japanese imported one through the Kobe Steel company unsure of the manufacturers name though. All these were in use by me over 15 years ago ! Thanks Steve Quote
kevinprior Posted August 20, 2005 Report Posted August 20, 2005 Hi, I have also used armoured fibre optics, IFM make them, but like above I have also used the banner type. I found IFM to be better for the larger type cables. Quote
Downunder Techo Posted August 21, 2005 Report Posted August 21, 2005 Boy, your AB rep must be green, we have been using this type of cable for years, check out the following link. http://www.ab.com/sensors/products/photoel...fiberoptic.html Quote
Chris Elston Posted August 21, 2005 Report Posted August 21, 2005 Downunder Techo, Naw....he's talking about an armored PATCH cable like a Micro M12 or a Pico M8. Not the fiber optic... Quote
gravitar Posted August 23, 2005 Author Report Posted August 23, 2005 Haha.. thank you! I must not have made my request clear enough! I'm looking for the outer "full metal jacket" that is readily available for fiberoptics, but *NOT TO MY KNOWLEDGE* available fur mundane 3-conductor sensor cables. If they cannot be made this way (seems odd to me..) I'm curious as to why! Quote
Guest budw Posted August 23, 2005 Report Posted August 23, 2005 Sorry, looks like Anaconda beat you to it. They make high flex 302 stainless steel cover (armor) used to protect wire and cables from weld splatter and such. See also attached link. http://www.anacondasealtite.com/Stainless.htm#cap. P.S. I am also and old coin op dude. Quote
gravitar Posted August 24, 2005 Author Report Posted August 24, 2005 Well, it looks like Anaconda is on the right track, but the link you gave is essentially "greenfield" tubing. I want something pre-loaded with 3-conductor cable and terminated on each end with a mini-change or pico-change connector. Coin-op games were how I was introduced to electronics. My dad started a video game route around Detroit when I was 9. I spent as much time poking around inside the games as I did playing them! Quote
Guest budw Posted August 25, 2005 Report Posted August 25, 2005 You are correct pre-molded would be great!! When we use the Anaconda armor we thread a single ended cord set through and cord grip the other end into a J-box. Could also use a field connector on the bare wire end. The coin op times were the best. Quote
