ianbuckley Posted August 23, 2005 Report Posted August 23, 2005 I was wondering, has anyone out there tried using the Siemens ASI bus on a machine with a lot of vibration, eg a press? Our local vendor says there shouldn't be any problems with the insulation displacment connectors, but I am highly skeptical. If anyone has done an install using this setup, were there problems over time with these connectors? Thanks, Ian Quote
Werner Posted October 27, 2005 Report Posted October 27, 2005 We used the ASI system on an elevator. This machine is moving up/down rapidly every 8 seconds. We have installed the system four months ago without vibration problems. I guess that normal cables on terminals have the same type of risk. Quote
Crossbow Posted October 28, 2005 Report Posted October 28, 2005 The insulation displacement connectors I've seen have screws or plastic snaps to keep them together once they pierce the shield. There should be no issue with them vibrating apart, as long as they were latched closed properly. If you're worried about it, put the connections in a box and use the screw terminal modules. Quote
