Hello, I am starting to build an simple automated material handeling machine. What would be the best (easiest) developent software to start progaming with? I have been looking at GE Proficy machine edition. Will I be able to program and control several 20-30 stepper motors with this and a GE S2K Controller? What kind of Controllers? I am new to all of this but do have some programming background, just trying to find out the best way to do it all myself. Thanks for any help. Allen

Call your local GE PLC supplier and discuss it with them. Give exact I/O counts, number of steppers, etc. and they will be able to tell you a solution using GE products. The more specifics you give them the better. Then do the same thing with a couple of other manufacturers. You could try Allen Bradley, Automationdirect.com, Entertron, and whom ever else you like. Then choose what you like. As far as ease of programming I've never had trouble with any of them. Alot of people do not like Siemens in the US, but its not that bad just not the best.
