Guest Guest_Engr Posted October 2, 2005 Report Posted October 2, 2005 Hi There; I would like to know 1.how to connect PLC S7-400/300 ,CPU-416-3 DP ,to LAN without ethernet card .i have PLC connected to MPI and Profibus.( complete step by step guide) 2.How to connect HMI MP-270B to LAN so that i can use the archive for generating reports. 3.What is the procedure for acquiring data from HMI thro LAN and which software i should use to create or generate alarm reports 4.which is the best software for online visualisation of machine status thro LAN This all should be achievable thro LAN and in office. My main intention is to monitor machines status.and to generate report from HMI trend at every end of shift .or whenever i want Our company wants to monitor all machine and to know the status of machine. So please i request all to extend help in this matter. Thanx Quote
Crossbow Posted October 3, 2005 Report Posted October 3, 2005 Well for one thing you can't connect a PLC to an Ethenet network without an Ethernet card. Unless you're looking for a slow serial to Ethernet bridge. I would recommend either putting an Ethernet card in the PLC or putting a Profibus card in the PC. And you wouldn't need to get data from the MP to get the data, just get the numbers from the PLC. If you're looking to access some history data in the screen you'll have to see if Siemens even has a way to access it. As for the PC software, any SCADA software should work. Siemens has a couple options, typically WinCC. Or you can go third party like Wonderware or Iconics. As for which software is best, depends on your required functions, connection to PLC, and of course available investment capital. Quote
Guest Guest_Engr Posted October 3, 2005 Report Posted October 3, 2005 Dear Chris Thanx for extending your reply. I have heard that we can connect PLC to LAN thro MPI to TCP/IP Converter ( Protocol converter ) which can be connected to hub or switch .Online functions are possible via Profibus DP or MPi or PPi.Then we have to have a OPC Server to connect visualisation programs with PLC via TTI protocol converter .so please let me know regarding this for more details : www.ttintl.com/english/tti_converter.html please check this link and comment on it .if i will use this it will be good or not or i should go for communication processor from siemens. My main intension is to generate reports, waste report ,production report, start and stop duration reports from the data tags stored in HMI MP270B Compact flash card or from PLC .and also to have a online status of machine sitting in my office and also to send this to workgoup computers thro LAN.please comment on it and guide me to right way. Best Regards Quote
JesperMP Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 It is the same converter that is sold by other companies such as Hirscmann, Deltalogic, IBH and possibly many others. (though there should be different firmware in some of them). It will work, but the main limitation is that only ONE pc can be online via the converter at any one time. If that also means that two applications on the same pc cannot be online at the same time I do not know. There have also been some quality problems with the converter getting hot. Deltalogic has just released a "Pro" version that shouldnt get too hot (it is a completely different design). For the S7-300 there is the reasonably priced CP343-1 "LEAN". Together with the Simatic Softnet Ethernet "LEAN" OPC server it is a relatively potent solution (up to max 8 connections at a time). There is no low-cost solution for the S7-400, other than the previously mentioned MPI/Ethernet converter. Quote
