About a year ago we used a Siemens DP/DP-coupler (6ES7158-0AD00-0XA0) to connect two profibusnets. The CPU on both sides were Mitsubishi Q02H and a QJ71PB92D-profibus master. No problems whatsoever!! No settings - no problems. The only thing you have to make is to assign each side of the DP/DP-coupler a profibusaddress. Now we are trying to do the same thing again. Everything is exactly the same, with the small difference that the DP/DP-coupler has a newer product number (6ES7158-0AD01-0XA0). And it is impossible to make that f*******g (yes, I am angry!!) thing work. When I read the buffermemory BM2040-2045 they tell me that one half of the DP/DP-coupler isn´t ready to communicate, and the other half doesn´t support certain requests from the profibus master ???????? Any ideas???????????

i've been using profibus on mitsubishi Q series PLCs too but have no experience or knoweledge of the siemens part. i am surprised with your experience because if someone is to have latest and greatest profibus it should be siemens. maybe someone in Siemens forum would know more about this? are you sure the rest of the setup is identical? are the other nodes working? maybe you can post or email me your files...

I tought so. I was just setting up one small profibus network using profibus master plc card borrowed from customer and at first it failed miserably. everything would work for a while and then lock-up. it took me a while to find out that built in terminator on the plc card (that is switchable on/off) didn't work. after i added it externaly everything was fine. maybe it's something silly like this and this is why i asked if everything on your new project is really same and if there are any other nodes that do work.

I´m afraid its not that simple. There are two messages I can read in the Buffermemories: The first says "Unit is not ready to operate" and the second says "Profibus master requires an operation which this device does not support". This is impossible faults! Since this unit is used earlier with no problems I dont think that these messages shows the real cause to my problems.

I just tried to find manual for the siemens part and came accross this: http://docnav.grasso-global.com/DocNav_Eng...Coupler_gbr.pdf then i tried to find the exact message you mention. is this maybe indicated by bit 4 of first station status byte (1 out of 3)? according to above manual it means you have to check configuration because master is trying to perform action that is not supported (such as set the node address). by the sound of it i would think that either someone edited GDS file or maybe you are not using correct one (maybe feature set did change from one version of coupler to another) and if this is not the problem, i would recheck all settings (how are node addresses set on the converter? dial or dip switches?). if one side of the coupler is not configured correctly due incorrect GSD file for example or user setting (module setting in GX Configurator DP for example) that could explain why the other side says "not ready"... i hope this helps, just don't give up, give it another thorough check. i find that simple mistakes often create problems because people (including myself) don't think something so obvious would actually happen.

When you have tried everything, there are always at least one thing more to try!! In this case there were two faults at the same time. First I had a shortcut in a busconnector which took me some time to find. A small improvement but still not the final solution. After trying all possible solutions, it was time to try the impossible solutions. I changed the .gsd-file from ver. ..0AD01.. to the old one ..0AD00.. and...wtf! No red lights! Only two friendly green lights, telling me everything is OK!! I tried several times changing between the two versions of the .gsd-file. Always with the same result. The old one is OK, the new is NOK. Thank you for your support!!
