newpageboba Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 I went to check on a RSLogix Forum topic this morning and I got a message that the Forum was no longer available. Anybody know what is going on??? Quote
TimWilborne Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 They closed it down. No one is really aware of why. What was your name over there? Quote
newpageboba Posted March 27, 2006 Author Report Posted March 27, 2006 It was meadboba or meadboba1 (cause my email address changed). Our Mill was sold by MeadWestvaco. We are now called NewPage. Therefore, a new email address. Now that Rockwell shutdown there site, I figure I will spend more time at this site now. Quote
Guest Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 I guarantee that you'll like it a LOT better over here ... welcome aboard ... Quote
TimWilborne Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 (edited) Yes, I believe you will find this site will better suite your needs. Most of the guys that were on the Rockwell Forum are also here plus a ton more that were not on the Rockwell Forum. I know what you mean about loosing user names over there. I lost 2 name but I refuse to put a one after my user name Did you have any open discussions on that forum that you need to continue. Some of the user names are different over here but if you post the Rockwell Forum user name we can probably help you find them Edited March 27, 2006 by TWControls Quote
newpageboba Posted March 27, 2006 Author Report Posted March 27, 2006 I had no active discussions going on. My strong point is interfacing Allen Bradley PLCs with Honeywell TDC3000 via EPLC Gateways and HPM Serial Interface. We have about a dozen EPLCG installations and I keep learning more about them every installation. We also have over 100 PLCs installed (including 14 Honeywell IPC620s). Mostly PLC5s. 20 RSView32 projects. Presently, I am converting a PLC5 to ControlLogix L63 on a Paper Machine. We had to step back because the ControlLogix handles PLC2 emulation (which the Honeywell EPLCG uses) differently than PLC5. Good thing we have a simulation lab. We will be converting a redundant PLC3 with about 70 1771 I/O Chassis next. We also have 20 VersaViews and are presently replacing all of them under warranty. Because we have had 16 failures due to fans or hard drives failing. Bob Arsenault NewPage Corp. Rumford, ME ps. I enjoyed the discussions about Rockwell's support of their forum. I guess it won't be an issue anymore. Quote
TimWilborne Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 Impressive. I think you will fit in wonderfully here Quote
Sleepy Wombat Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 Welcome aboard Bob. You seem to have a wealth of experience yourself. Quote
Chris Elston Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 Rockwell is starting to share "sample" code finally. So I guess they take away one thing, but add another feature. Quote
gravitar Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 I totally gave up on the RSLogix forums a couple years ago.. Much livelier discussions here! Welcome aboard, Bob.. Glad to see MrPLC is adding to the talent pool! Quote
Chris Elston Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 I think it's hard for a manufacture to run a "good" forum. You have to be somewhat "neutral". The manufacture at any time could delete or edit your post. Having a place outside like at mrplc.com gives everyone a chance to say what they want, and generally not be hassled, unless it's illegal or SPAM...ewe... Also trying to provide some simple tools like, attachments and downloads is a plus. When everyone can work together to submit material, it sure does make a great place to leech information from other great engineers in this world. From an intergrator stand point, it's nice to be able to submit questions and know who the experts are in one single place, because as an intergrator, we are spec'd into using everyone's PLC, not just one brand. Plus, I get a chance to see what features might be better than others with different brand PLCs. The Omron forum is always hopping with action, some of the screen shots of the software they have look interesting....hmmm....mmmm....good.... Quote
TimWilborne Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 (edited) I think you will find many of the users from the Old Rockwell Forum here. But many of the names are different so maybe some of those guys can post who they were on the Rockwell Forum. I had a couple names that I lost but I was not very active with them. Here are the only ones I am pretty sure of and I apologize if I am forgetting anyone. Ron Beaufort Ken Roach BobLfoot (1, 2) Ken Moore (I think he was there) Gerry was Gerryh (I think they are the same) Newpageboba was Meadboba (1) The ones I am not sure are here Andy_123 Rebliss Fabiomalaspina, Pmuren ANelson (Forum addict, says couldn't take the volume of post. May see him here) Ethernet Maybe others can add the ones they know Edited March 28, 2006 by TWControls Quote
Nathan Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 (edited) I second TW. This forum is better anyways. I'm looking forward to its continual growth. (4-6-06 edit) I forgot to mention. Inductive Automation has a forum where they will provide free tech support to all. Integrators and end users are welcome. ---- Nathan Boeger Integrator, Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer Inductive Automation "Design simplicity cures engineered complexity" Edited April 6, 2006 by Nathan Quote
Gerry Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 Yep - that's me - here and at PLCS.NET Ron Bliss, Fabio Malaspina, and Phil Muren are all Rockwell management/marketing people. Unlikely that they'll show up here - pity. I suspect 'Ethernet' is also a Rockwell employee - very knowledgeable. Andy_123 aka Contr_Conn Quote
Contr_Conn Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 (edited) I don't agree, Phil and Fabio are very nice and friendly, I never met Ron. Edited March 28, 2006 by Contr_Conn Quote
TimWilborne Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 These are marketing guys. I would say they are have here for a long time Quote
