Citect have been around some time and have established themselves in the SCADA market. Recently - last week in fact, the deal was done whereby now Schneider (Sqr D) have bought Citect. My question is / discussion would be what do we all think of the take over. Questions to ponder would be do you think that this will serverly affect their industry independance ? etc....I suppose that as with all good intentions the line will be that Citect will continue to operate in its own right independant of Schneider blah blah blah, but as time generally tells all of these "good" intentions seem to go by the way side.....

I would guess that will be the case and Schneider would be silly to chase away existing cutomers that use other brands of PLC. Longer term they will probably try to enhance performance when connected to Modicon vs brand x or make brand x drivers more expensive.

The one thing to think about is Citect is not a struggling company. I don't know the exact number, but I would say they are fairly profitable. I don't believe Schneider would purchase a profitable company and make any immediate drastic changes. Over time, you may see some overlapping products disappear but I would make sense the more popular of the two would stay. Now if they were loosing money, then I could be a different story. In that case they could be purchased for extra manufacturing capacity of the purchasers product or the company that is being purchased may still have a good name for the purchaser to put on their product but I don't think that is the case here Edited by TWControls
