Well so much for getting a CPU374. It's not available right now, on quality hold. I heard that there was power up issue from one person, then another said the processor was getting upgraded. Anyone know for sure what the story is? I guess I'll have to order a CPU364 for my cognex project upcoming with that CMM311 module.

Heres a link to a little more discussion on the CPU364/CPU374/enhanced CPU374 issue. http://gefanuc.bnsi.net/eforum/showthread.php?threadid=5705 From your selection of a CPU364 and a CMM311 module, I'm inferring that you need both serial communications and ethernet. The CPU364 gives you ethernet and the CMM311 gives you serial. Given that the CPU364 is slated to be obsoleted, you might be better off with a CPU363 and a CMM321 module rather than a CPU364 and a CMM311. The CPU363 will give you two serial ports and the CMM321 gives you ethernet. The advantage to the CMM321 module is that it supports Modbus TCP. The combination is also a few hundred dollars less expensive than the CPU364/CMM311 combination.

You would need to do the same with the CPU374 to get two networks(NICs) as the CPU374 is a 2 port switch (1 IP) not two NICs. Also neither the CPU364 or CPU374 do Modbus TCP/IP yet. You can get a CPU374 by talking to your distributor and asking for the 'waiver' that currently needs to be signed to get a CPU374 delivered. The current problem does not affect the operation of the unit, the problem is that once-in-a-while it will not powerup in 'Run' mode you need to cycle power one more time. Anyone who signs the waiver will be updated as soon as the fix is available. Or, you can get around this by ordering the pre "plus" version, check with your friendly distributor for a suffix to add to the IC693CPU374-???? part number. Edited by RussB

I don't know why they have a waiver for this. Every year we kill power to our plant for 3 to4 days for sub-station maintenance. When we start-up there are always a handful of 351 CPU's in Stop Mode. As well as several executable's missing in the PCM's I also should mention that we have a strict policy for checking for a low battery on every system before the shutdown. Edited by Smoke

These symptoms are generally caused by 'noise' and in some plants shut-down noise can be extreme. But... If you can pinpoint the device and version that is giving you the problems and that equipment is still available, and it can be duplicated by GE Fanuc it will get fixed. If the affected units are identifiable verify the version and up/down grade to a version that is not affected. If the affected units are random it is most likely an electrical noise problem. If it is not tolerable it can be fixed, the real question is how long and how much? As for the waiver, you can get around this by ordering the pre "plus" version, check with your friendly distributor for a suffix to add to the IC693CPU374-DJMP part number. Edited by RussB
