panic mode Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 hi everyone, well, i have unusual application that so far is straight forward but we would really really like to put one (or more) sensors on or next to a cutting tool and monitor depth of the cut. problem is that this cutting occurs inside pipe (i know what you think, but that's the way it is) at a pretty long distance from the pipe end (some 100" away). pipe is embeded so only access is from the inside. inside diameter is about 4", driveshaft powering tool is about 1" diameter. challenge is how to transfer signal(s) since the cutting tool rotates and the only acess we have is from the same side. i could mount one or more analog sensor on the driveshaft but what then? i've seen some systems to transfer i/o signals for turntables etc. i don't want to put slip rings etc. do you guys have any suggestions? regards Quote
GerryM Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 I have seen some torque sensors that use wireless technology to transfer sensor readings. Maybe there is something like that you could use. I recall seeing advertisements for industrial bluetooth, but I'm not overly familiar with what is available. Quote
