vanilla_gorilla Posted June 24, 2006 Report Posted June 24, 2006 I was looking into getting a new laptop bag, and I was wondering what others are using ?? Does anyone have the need as I do, to carry the laptop and some basic handtools ?? (Multimeter, Allen Keys, a small selection of screwdrivers etc...) I'm getting sick and tired of carrying my laptop AND a tool pouch, and was wondering if anyone out there is using or has seen a top loading laptop bag, that has room/design to carry tools as well ?? Cheers
gravitar Posted June 25, 2006 Report Posted June 25, 2006 I gave up on keeping tools in my laptop bag and just got a small, old Crafstman box to carry along. The main reason was the tools would end up pretty oily and dirty and I didn't want to bring that grime back into the bag! It sucks having to carry two things, but atleast I've got plenty of space to take what I need now..
TERdON Posted June 25, 2006 Report Posted June 25, 2006 Another alternative is to get one of those laptop rucksacks. Plenty of space for laptop, printed documentation and paper and stuff, and should be enough for a small set of tools as well.
wborst Posted June 25, 2006 Report Posted June 25, 2006 I use a Samsonite Wheeled computer bag. It has plenty of room for all the cables for connecting to various brands of PLC's as well as a few small tools. And there is even room for some documentation folders and my PC. Once I have all that stuff loaded into the bag, I'm very glad that it has those wheels and a retractable handle. I have used this setup for several years and have been very pleased with it.
ssommers Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 I bought myself a Ricardo Lightweight 17" wheeled tote last December. There are 2 nice sets of pockets for tools, cables, USB floppy drive, etc and the large middle pocket fits a laptop with no problems. I even had two 2" binders in the back large pocket. http://www.kohls.com/products/product_page...D=1151325958716 People at my current long-term contract site looked at it a little wierd at first, but now understand that this is my office. In some ways it's even better than the cart the electricians have because I can customize what's in it from day to day depending on where I'm going & what I'm doing.
BobLfoot Posted June 27, 2006 Report Posted June 27, 2006 I used to carry a wheeled tote like some of the fellas mention, but then I tried a canvas backpack and found that being able to add a change of clothes and a snack was invaluable for those times when Usless Air, Southworst Airlines, Awful Airlines, Delay Airlines and Northworst Airlines would misplacce or lose stuff.
