Ken Moore Posted July 5, 2006 Report Posted July 5, 2006 A safety alert concerning Cynergy3 Components Ltd level switches was issued today by the UK Health & Safety Executive, which came out of the ongoing investigation into the fire last year at the Buncefield fuel depot. I am not sure how many members this might affect, but you can never have to much safety information. http://www.hse.gov.uk/press/2006/e06071.htm Quote
TimWilborne Posted July 5, 2006 Report Posted July 5, 2006 Boy something so simple can cause such a awful accident. Would redundant sensors helped in this instance? Quote
Ken Moore Posted July 6, 2006 Author Report Posted July 6, 2006 From what I read, it appears that the switches can be left in test mode, and then they will not fuction when needed. If a second device based on different technology were used, it might have helped. A typical tank installation for us usually has some type of analog level transmitter with independant hi-hi level switches. The switches are hard wired to the fill valve or fill pump. But, if the tansmitter alarm was ignored, or the transmitter improperly calibrated, and if the switch doesn't work, you would be S.O.L. Quote
