panic mode Posted July 12, 2006 Report Posted July 12, 2006 Well I tought I would just share this little thing with those who still remember DOS prompt. It's a small registry hack that adds small thing to the windows explorer. When you right click on any folder it will show option to "send it to DOS box" what it does is open DOS Box and forces it to use that folder (and drive) as current path. Don't about you but I still do thing or two on prompt line like making file lists etc. The thing I don't like is navigating from DOS default path to whatever drive or directory you want to issue command or two. This little thing fixes it. I've tested it on few Win2000 and WinXP machines. If there is interest I can explain how to do this by hand and then it should work on any windows but messing with registry can be dangerous so this REG file is probably simplest and safest way to do it. Actual procedure is shorter but when you export registry windows adds stuff. Use at own risk and if you are curious but not quite sure, try it on friends computer first. OpenInDOSBox.zip Quote
Peter Nachtwey Posted July 12, 2006 Report Posted July 12, 2006 There is a power toys tweak that will do this for you easily. It allows you to use the windows explorer to select a directory and then "open a Command Prompt here" This is a must for guys like me that still use DOS tools. Quote
Ken Moore Posted July 12, 2006 Report Posted July 12, 2006 I use the DOS shell a lot also, I've been using a freeware utility called Drop to Dos. You can get it here: http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/downloads/DOSDROP.ZIP I works like the power toy add on, you right click on any folder and then select drop to dos, you will be in that directory with a command prompt.
