Firetubes Posted July 13, 2006 Report Posted July 13, 2006 I've been asked to backup and then add some rungs and small graphics to an existing system that I think is written using GE Proficy with Versamax I/O's running on a pc. There's an HMI application that is running on the same pc as well and it's probably GE Cimplicity. The original programmer is gone and we want to first try to backup the programs and then make the modifications. I don't know what version both of these apps are and am wondering how to find that out and what version of software is needed to program them. If they are older versions like 4.0, will the new ones 5.0 or 5.5 be able to make changes and save back as the older revision? Basically, I want to copy the development files from the plant's pc, use my notebook to modify them and them put them back on to the plant's pc. Thanks for the help! Quote
RussB Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 If the original was written with Cimplicity (Proficy) ME Version 2.5 or later you should not have any problems using Proficy (Cimplicity) ME Ver. 5.0 or later (I HIGHLY recommend Version 5.5 AND Service Pack 1 AND SIM7, in fact I would NOT trust anything else to convert properly). If you have a current backup, start with it and open it with your PME then back it up. Or, attach to the running app. and 'Upload' then backup. You will want to 'Validate' the project and check all warnings and correct all errors before making any changes, log these with a *Copy/Paste* to Notepad just in case. The only areas that you may find have changed from the original to the current is in some of the scripts. AGAIN, PLEASE Use Version 5.5 AND Service Pack 1 AND SIM4 or later (SIM7 is current today). I have seen some REALLY WIERD problems when this version is NOT used. Quote
Firetubes Posted July 17, 2006 Author Report Posted July 17, 2006 Thanks for the info and suggestions, Russ. I was afraid of the revision problem so I am thinking maybe I should just purchase what ever version we're running just to be safe. How would I find this info out? The programmer did not leave us with a backup copy so I guess I would have to upload from the PC. Do you know if the comments are still there or like AB and other PLC's, you have to have the orig developed file to see the comments? Quote
Paullys50 Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 You will need the orginal developement file to see the comments. Quote
RussB Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 Being PC-Control all the variable properties, including the rung comments will be available. Quote
