TerryRWood Posted October 6, 2006 Report Posted October 6, 2006 Hello all.... I have a tricky one here... My company is starting a plant in China, I have to have some equipment we purchased shipped here to the USA for testing, we will also be building equipment to ship over there. Problem... China 360v 50Hz 5 Wire / USA 480v 60Hz 4 wire I need to find a "Converter" for here in the US to run this Chinese equipment. It needs to be able to handle up to 200 Amps. See my problem... I've searched and called... seems I'm the first person to ever have this need... yea right. Any help appreciated. TRW Quote
Chris Elston Posted October 6, 2006 Report Posted October 6, 2006 One time, I had some machinery that was going overseas to England. It was 400V / 50 Hz. We found a gasoline generator that we could adjust the HZ and Volts on the output. So we rented a generator and set it up for 400V and 50 Hz to simulate the line, 50 Hz was imporant for a run at rate, because we was using 3-phase motors when run slower in England, than 60 Hz here in the USA. So I dunno if you can find the same gasoline generator like we did, but might be worth a phone call. Quote
Ken Moore Posted October 6, 2006 Report Posted October 6, 2006 Can you purchase a Chinese generator, just the generator. Then purchase a US motor with the correct H.P. and RPM, basically building your on Motor-Generator set. I'm sure you will need a few controls also. Quote
ECSI Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 Adaptive Power may be able to help. They make frequency and voltage converters. Adaptive Power Quote
Chris Elston Posted October 7, 2006 Report Posted October 7, 2006 That is REALLY NICE....I'll have to save this link next time I need something like this. Quote
GerryM Posted October 9, 2006 Report Posted October 9, 2006 This is a good guide for whether to use a M-G Set or a semiconductor package: http://www.georator.com/GuideFreqConv.php They also sell them, although I have never purchased one yet. I have bought a three 60 to 50Hz M-G Sets from these people, about 7 years ago: http://www.sievertelectric.com/index.html They were attractively priced and work fine, still running. One thing I remember about static packages is they don't handle inrush as well as an M-G Set. Be sure to discuss that with whom ever you purchase from. Quote
