Hi I've stupidly offered to assist a colleauge (who has gone on Holiday!!!) with setting up basic communication with a Yaskawa VSD so that our client can see if they have limited local control of the VSD even though the VSD has been set to operate in Profibus mode. I'm using a CP315 2DP cpu, I have the relevant gsd files, have all the cables etc, but am clueless to setup the comms, has anyone here ever connected a Siemsns Profibus CPU to a Yaskawa VSD ? If so an you assist me ! Regards Joanthan

Hello Jonathan. In STEP7 HW config, you must use the function Options .. Install GSD file. Then open the HW Catalog, and go to PROFIBUS DP .. Additional Field Devices. The Yaskawa drive should be somewhere in that folder. Select the 315 CPU and open the Properties of the Profibus port (X2). Make sure that a Profibus network is activated. From the main window in the hardware catalog there will be a dotted line coming out from X2 indicating the Profibus network. Select it (it becomes solid black), and add a Yaskawa drive by double clicking on it in the HW Catalog. You should now have a Yaskawa drive hanging off the Profibus line. The next step is to find out the meaning of the bits and bytes in the i/o that is assigned to the Yaskawa drive. For this you must study the Yaskawa documentation.
