Alex1277 Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 Hi evrebody! I have FX1N and FX2N-4AD and load cell (http://www.sentranllc.com/lc_shear.htm) XA4. How to wire this load cell to a/d module? Thank you! Quote
Sergei Troizky Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 (edited) Loadcell voltage is too low for PLC analog input. A signal conditioner/amplifier is required. It's unclear from the link provided whether the loadcell is with or without amplifier. Also, what is the resolution of the A/D converter? 8-bit resolution may be insufficient (only 256 increments). Colin Carpenter Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 The FX2N-4AD is capable of reading in 4-20 mA which is equivalent to 0 - 1000 bits, giving a resolution of 16 mA equivalent to 1000 bits. It can also read in a 0-10 volts signal, but in this case, I believe the resolution drops as I'm pretty sure that the range -10 to +10 volts is equivalent to 0 - 1000 bits. You can really improve the resolution by investing in an FX2N-8AD module and setting it so that 0 - 20 mA is equivalent to 0 - 20,000 bits, giving resolution to one thousandth of a mA. However, as Sergei rightly says, without knowing what signal the load cell gives out (which is unclear from the PDF) it's not possible to say how to connect it to the analogue input module, or what the resolution would be. I get the impression a phone call to the load cell manufacturers might be a good idea? Quote
Crossbow Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 Load cells use a millivolt output. You can do millivolt in the FX2N-8AD, but not in the FX2N-4AD. The 4AD is for voltage or current only. Quote
